About me

Hello. My name is Barry Lee, a professional educator and welcome to my website. In these pages I will take you to a journey in self-discovery.

The purpose of this website is to explore my professional development as a teacher/researcher with the hope of bringing change and understanding for myself. It will bring a contribution to a body of knowledge, in a form of self-expression, I have accumulated over the years. It is unique because of my background and international experience of which there is no documented evidence that coincide with my living educational theory.

I think that a living educational theory changes over time. What I started with has now evolved into something different with the passage of time. How the theory has changed? What is the theory?

Life begins with a breath of fresh air and moves along a continuum through physical transformation coupled with cognitive processes to arrive at a point where the future is left hanging - to be carried on or to be terminated. Though equally important, physical transformation is a biological issue that will not be dealt with in this discussion. My focus is on the mind and how it can be developed through reflection and practice. What we say and what we do are often in contradiction. Bringing ourselves closer to our values is what reflection can do. When we minimize these contradictions we can realize growth in change and understanding.

Who am I?

Documenting my life experience in no way compares to St. Augustine's Confessions, the author of the first written autobiography, but it is the first step to a thousand mile journey. It is my experience and education  I intend to use as a foundation to build my living educational theory.

What is the meaning of life for me?

For me the meaning of life is to experience growth and try to understand things that I take a personal interest in. By having a deeper understanding of these interests I can pursue happiness in my own micro world and perhaps bring some happiness to others in the same environment at a macro level. I believe this will take place over time and that change is necessary for any of this to happen. So, the meaning of life - for me - is to experience growth through challenges defined by a journey of successes, mishaps and seemingly countless moments of static activities.

What is the direction of my future?

Since I've developed a likeness to teaching - and researching -English, I have decided to make education my career and ambition. Dividing my time teaching and researching is like hand in glove. It is between these two complementaries that I intend to pursue my dreams in the midst of happiness and contentment. As it is said, a ten thousand mile journey begins with a single step.

NOTE

This is a working website. Therefore it is continually evolving and rejuvanating itself as I reflect on my growth, on my present state and on how I intend to blossom.
